Pyrenees
Pyrenees Range of mountains in s France and n Spain, extending in an almost straight line e to w from the Mediterranean Sea to the Bay of Biscay. They formed in the Tertiary era. The Pyrenees contain deposits of marble, gypsum, and oil. There are extensive forests. Sheep and goat grazing is the chief farming activity. The highest point is Pico de Aneto, 3406m (11,168ft). Length: 435km (270mi).
